Faux French Chalkboard

How would you like to have this on your menu for today? I love designing and painting signs and this one was done for a bakery. The chalkboard part isn't chalkboard and the lettering isn't chalk. It's all paint. Thus the "faux" part. I'm pretty far away from France, too. So I guess that's "faux" too. What is it though about our notion of a perceived French flea market style that's so appealing? I don't know, I just know I like to surround myself with things that have a story or appear to have a story. Or maybe I can make up a story how I came across this in Paris and all the trouble and expense I had shipping it back home.

Veggie People

It's still too early to plant most things here in Wisconsin, so I'll content myself with this imaginary garden. Who is to say that this doesn't go on in the wee hours of the night in your row of carrots? Someone obviously thought so and built a career on those imaginings. These veggie people are designed by Ginny Betourne for the Bethany Lowe company.
These are set up on my dining room table so you can see not a lot of dining takes place here. I think we sat here in the late 1990's when I was trying to impress my soon to be husband with my impressive cooking skills with dinners of macaroni and cheese with a bacon topping. Since then though the couch is the far more comfortable spot, which does free up my dining table for more important things like the sewing machine, bill paying and of course displays of veggie people.

Sometimes you just need a laugh

I'm always looking for new things (or old things) for my store. I concentrate on holiday reproductions and unique craft supplies. At times I can't even think of a possible use for something but I have to have it. This new Victorian scrap frog just makes me smile. I think it's either his creepy mottled legs, his speedos, or the fact that he's carrying an umbrella (and we know frogs hate water!).

Bird Watching

This is what happens when you put up a new birdfeeder outside the window and you're visited by dozens of cowbirds. The rapt attention of your cats. Cats that wouldn't normally sit this close or share the same bed are united. Maybe just this time a bird will magically enter the house. What a break it would be from our diet of Fancy Feast! We can dream.
